CHD: Reduce risk of death, coronary death & non-fatal MI, reduce risk for undergoing myocardial revascularisation procedures & slow progression of coronary atherosclerosis, reduce development of new lesions & new total occlusions. Adjunct to diet in patients w/ primary hypercholesterolaemia, heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia or mixed hyperlipidaemia when response to diet & other non-pharmacological measures is inadequate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
CHD 20 mg nightly. Max: 80 mg daily given as single evening dose. Hyperlipidaemia 20 mg nightly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Avoid excessive consumption (>1 L daily) of grapefruit juice.
Contraindications
Active liver disease, unexplained persistent elevation of serum transaminases, porphyria. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
History of liver disease, high alcohol intake. Perform baseline & regular LFT. Discontinue if serum transaminase conc >3 times ULN. Avoid concomitant use w/ fibrates.
